A common situation of imbalance in the hormones of a female that cause irregular menstrual cycles in a female. This imbalance eventually causes problems like infertility, cardiovascular diseases, and altered physical appearances. The term Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome describes the appearance of the ovaries when viewed under ultrasound. They appear to have cysts growing around them.
In PCOS, there may be anywhere from 12 to more cysts on the ovaries, that range in size from 2 mm to 9 mm. What this does is that the condition hinders ovulation, making it irregular or non existent. Naturally, an absent ovulation cycle means that the lady will have issues in conceiving naturally.
Cause of PCOS
The exact cause of PCOS in women is unknown as of yet. However, it may have a genetic basis as it is seen to run in families. If a female in your family has had history of PCOS, there are chances that even you may be at a higher risk of developing the condition yourself.
