Unexplained Infertility
Prognosis of unexplained infertility has a very wide spectrum, meaning doctor’s were not able to find anything wrong with either male or female after the analysis of sperm, eggs, fallopian tubes and uterus. In majority of couples experiencing problems with fertility, that too the unexplained one, mental trauma and stress levels are very high. These couples often invest a lot of time and money in fertility treatments with no results. One diagnosis after the other seems to be an unending story leading the couples to knock several doors. The current rate of unexplained infertility is about 50% for females under age 35 and about 80% by age 40.
Unexplained infertility is more likely to be because of egg quality and quantity as women age. Mild endometriosis is also considered under unexplained category as the cause and effect relationship has not been definitely established between mild endometriosis and fertility problems. Chances for getting pregnant on own after 5 years of unexplained infertility is less than 10%. Treatment with clomid tablets or inject able gonadotropins plus IUI have shown results in women under 35, but in females above 40 years of age IVF is the only option left.
